Ordinary PS becomes brittle and prone to cracking under low‑temperature conditions, with its brittle‑transition temperature around −30 ℃. The core objective of cold‑resistant modification is to enhance its low‑temperature toughness and impact resistance. It is mainly achieved by blending PS with elastomers such as EPDM and SBS, or tough polymers such as PE. EPDM delivers outstanding weather‑resistance and low‑temperature performance. When blended with PS, the composite maintains good flexibility and avoids brittle fracture under cold conditions.

Main Applications

Cold‑resistant modified PS is adopted for components operating under low‑temperature environments, including frozen‑food packaging, refrigerated display‑cabinet parts, outdoor product housings for frigid‑zone regions, and automotive interior‑exterior trims that require impact‑resistance performance at −30 ℃ or even lower temperatures.
